FabSuite View - Licensing

FabSuite View is a new product and so must be purchased and licensed before it can be used.  The number of View licenses can (and often will be) less than the total number of FabSuite licenses.

After running the update to 18.0 open the FabLicense program to begin setting up the FabSuite View license.  The steps to do that are different depending on whether you have a Network or Per-Computer license.

Network (and Network Lease) FabSuite View License Setup

In a network setup the network license file is updated with the total number of FabSuite View licenses, and then those need to be assigned to individual users in FabSuite so that those users can take advantage of the model viewer interface features.

  1. Execute a File > Update Network License operation.
  2. This will update the license with the presence of the View license if it has been enabled for the account and also show the number of View licenses that are now available.
  3. Now log into FabSuite and go into File > Administration.  When the FabSuite View product has been enabled and the license type is network, then there will be a check box available to assign the available FabSuite View licenses to individual users along with a display to the right showing the total number of licenses and the number already assigned.  Select a user, check the 'FabSuite View License Assigned' box, and save.

When a user is assigned a FabSuite View license they can use the model interface features from any computer that they log into.  If multiple people log into FabSuite at the same time with the same username, and that user has been assigned a FabSuite View license, then only one of those people will be permitted to use the model interface features.

Transferring a FabSuite View License from the Network Pool

When transferring a license out of the network license pool there is an option to transfer one of the FabSuite View licenses along with it.  Following the normal license transfer steps, the first 'Start Transfer' step is performed on the target computer (the one that you want to transfer the license to):

The second 'Transfer' step is performed on the server, and after selecting the transfer file a prompt will appear asking if a FabSuite View license should be transferred:

If you click 'Yes' at that prompt then the number of Network Licenses and FabSuite View Licenses will be reduced by one, with that reflected as Transferred:

The third 'Complete Transfer' step is performed back on the target computer.  If a FabSuite View license was transferred from the server then FabSuite View will show as activated on this computer.

The model viewer interface features can now be used on this computer.  When this license is transferred back to the network pool the FabSuite View license will automatically be transferred with it.

If you had clicked 'No' at the 'Transfer a FabSuite View license?' prompt on the server then this computer would show 'FabSuite View Activated: No' instead.

Per-Computer (and Lease) FabSuite View License Setup

In a per-computer or lease license configuration, in order to use the model interface capabilities a computer needs to have FabSuite View activated.  This is essentially a secondary activation.  To activate a computer to be able to use FabSuite View:

  1. Execute a File > Update License operation.
  2. This will update the license with the presence of the View license if it has been enabled for the account.  If FabSuite View is present in the list of purchased modules and products then the 'FabSuite View Activated' status is shown.

  3. Select File > Activate FabSuite View to activate the View license on this computer.  If the operation is successful then 'FabSuite View Activated' will show 'Yes', and now all model viewer interface features can be used on this computer.
